I have a cluster of ideas that I work on, but right now my favorite is a novel called LINDORM that I based on a Scandinavian folktale.

When Linnea faces the gray-skinned man unearthing her father’s coffin, she has no idea it is about a knife. When her best friend, Tykone, uses that knife to attack a dragon-like snake, the lindorm, he has no idea he’s wounding a missing prince. The gray-skinned stranger guesses, only he has come North to serve his master from the world of magic in the hot lands.

Under the unsetting sun of summer that master will seek a new kingdom, with a sinister patience to outlast the power of anyone who might seek to oppose it.

Far north of the equator the sun sets early in the cold months and stays longer in the sky during the summer.  Most northern cultures have celebrations marking the longest day of the year, Summer Solstice.  My summer nights are brightly lit, and I built this story in an environment similar to my own. This resulted in the challenge of conveying the passage of time without the steady markers of darkness and light.

Another novel I'm working on is called SHADOW SWAN. It's less far along, so the most I can talk about now is that it's about a 17-year-old who discovers his mother came from another world-- when his father sends them there for Christmas break without him . The guy rescues a swan who can talk and eventually confides his fears about the impending collapse of his parents' marriage.

Naturally she turns out to be an enchanted princess, and...

Eventually she comes back to earth with him. Which of course can only make life more complicated.

But what is life (and the best of novels) except a string of complications?

I'll let you know now I really enjoy stories that continue past the rescue.

I have a whole file of these I look forward to working on in time.
